One of the Pars - and the SPL's - most consistent performers over the last few years, Nicholson is determined to force himself back into the international setup, an unlikely target should the midfielder be playing First Division football next season.
With Aberdeen and Hearts both said to be monitoring the midfielder's situation Pars Director of Football Jim Leishman remains upbeat about the contract talks.
"We had a chat and everything was fine," said Leish, "It was decided we would wait until the end of the season to see what the position is. That way there is no pressure on anyone and Barry can concentrate on the job in hand at Dunfermline."
